Memory 1, Creating Castle Oblivion
Form: A fishbone, snap to get memory
What it is: From start to 4:29
She exits from a strange, twisting tower with an unconscious young boy on her back. His name is Ven, and she needs to keep him safe. Despite being unconscious and unable to hear her, he summons a key and opens a doorway to another world. Heartened by his display of will, she steps through the portal to their home, which she's shocked to find in ruins. The world itself has been destroyed and torn apart. Picking up an abandoned keyblade, she remembers back to when she last stood here with such conviction, such faith in her friends, and it hits her how completely everything fell apart. But she has no time for mourning, or falling into depression, she has work to do. And so she strides forward, into the ruins of her home, determined to keep hope. At this point, she remembers back to her Master's instructions, and learns her name, 'Aqua'. This land is neutral ground where light and dark exist in balance, her Master charged her with protecting it should something happen to him. Aqua sets Ven down in a chair and uncovers a keyhole, transforming the Land of Departure into Castle Oblivion. With that done, she promises Ven that even if it's lonely, he'll be safe until she can return with Terra to wake him up, and sets out.
What she learned:
-She has a young comatose friend who is extremely important to her, she needs to protect and save him
-MAGICAL KEY WEAPONS
-Her home is completely destroyed
-She had so much hope and faith in something, in someone named Terra, but that sure didn't work out
-SCREW THAT ALWAYS BELIEVE IN FRIENDSHIP
-Her name is Aqua and she is a Master.
-Something happened to her own Master, probably dead :( She doesn't have any hope of saving him like she does Ven and Terra.
-Made her home a magic castle only she can enter without her memories being torn apart to protect her home and her friend, SURE WAS A THING SHE DID. Hella strong magic over here.
-Despite everything, and knowing that things can never return to how they were, she still believes she can set things right.
This is a scene from the end of the game and it's pretty hilarious to get first, it's a whole infodump of plot that she has absolutely no build-up or context for. It let's her know some of who she is, and what she was fighting for, but she has no idea what she's actually fighting against. Aqua has lost so much, but still has hope against all odds. And because she came to the gallery she knows this doesn't work out. She wasn't strong enough and couldn't save them, because why else would she come here? Hope can only get you so far.
